Potters Bar Inquest
Dextrous Web produced this website for Herfordshire County Council, to support the Inquest into the Potters Bar rail crash of 2002. The website needed to be live before the start of the Inquest, leaving only a few weeks for its design, development, testing and launch.
There are several previous inquest sites that had been produced in-house by the Judicial Communications Office. We used those sites as a guide to produce a more modern design, along with another design taking a different direction — which the client ultimately chose to use.
We needed to pay particular attention to the documents that were published by the Inquest, including hearing transcripts which had to go live as soon as they were produced. We put together a WordPress site that leverages the standard WordPress admin interface to make document publishing easy and painless.
After the site launched, we ran a training session for the client team, and made sure they knew how to get extra support from us when they needed it.
What Dextrous Web did
- Plan
- Reviewed and discussed previous Inquest sites with the client team. Talked about the requirements of their Inquest. Met with staff from the previous Inquest to learn from their experience
- Design
- Produced two potential designs for the site, one using the existing Inquest websites as a guide, and the other offering a new direction. Developed the chosen design into a full set of templates
- Build
- Implemented the site using WordPress, incorporating the various downloadable documents that needed to be published. Made sure the site was easy for the client team to maintain. Delivered regular and timely updates to the client, seeking feedback and working it into the site
- Host & Support
- Hosted the site following a soft launch. Advised on search engine optimisation and ran a training session for the client team.
