MPs’ Expenses: a consultation
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority approached us early in 2010 to produce a website for their consultation on MPs’ expenses. This consultation had to be completed, analysed and a policy in place in time for the 2010 general election, so time was short. It was also a matter of considerable public interest, which required us to give careful thought to the balance between substantive engagement for the public and a manageable process for the client.
The website was produced in a couple of weeks and went live in time for the consultation launch. During the consultation period, it was used to submit 2,259 responses, mostly from members of the public. After the consultation closed, we carried out an analysis on the online responses and produced a report for the client, which was published alongside their summary of the consultation.
What Dextrous Web did
- Design
- Produced the site’s look and feel, intended to be clean and simple, so as not to conflict with any corporate branding that IPSA produces in the future
- Build
- Built the site using WordPress, with a custom plugin for capturing responses
- Support
- Supported the project during and after its launch, ensuring that it stayed usable and responsive under load. Remained on-hand for small tweaks and updates
- Refine
- After the consultation closed, we updated the site with information about the publication of IPSA’s report, and published the responses that had been recieved from the public
